Where are you from?

I'm from Brize Norton, a village in the Cotswolds in the UK. The Cotswolds have a reputation for being quiet but where I'm from there is an air base and every day is filled with the sound of jet engines. I loved growing up there.

イギリスのコッツウォルズの小さい町、ブライズ･ノートンからです。あの町は静かと思いきやその近くに空軍基地があるので、毎日飛行機のエンジンの音が聞こえます。ここで育った時間がとても大好きです

Why did you come to Japan?

I became interested in Japan after studying the Meiji Period at university. The country seemed so different to the UK that I wanted to see it for myself and to know why it's so fascinating to many Westerners. I had worked in China and Poland before coming to Japan, and the differences I saw in those places only made me want to explore Japan even more. Having lived here now for 11 years and married into a Japanese family I'm still finding things to explore. I may never be able to say“I know Japan”but it will be fun to keep exploring.

大学生の頃、日本の明治時代を勉強して興味を持ちました。イギリスと比べたら全く違うと思いこの目で見たいと思いました。来日する前に中国とポーランドで働いたことがありますが、日本とはやはり違うようで、日本を見たいと思い続けました。来日して11年、まだまだ日本のことは詳しくはないけれど、ひき続きいろいろな発見していきます。

What's great about being a Senior Teacher?

I enjoy assisting newer teachers in finding their feet in the school and helping them get settled with ideas for activities and games, imparting my knowledge to help them should they need it.

I also enjoy coordinating with the Japanese staff, to provide a link with the teachers and to assist in helping the school to function smoothly. I believe that the Senior Teacher is vital in this role as the Japanese staff have a dedicated teacher they can talk to at any time without hesitation about any issues.

新しい講師たちを育てるのは好きです。自分のスキルを伝え、ゲームとかアクティビティを勧め、できるだけ支えていきたいです。

シニアティチャーとして、日本人スタッフと講師たちの架け橋になるのは大切なことです。私は日本人スタッフたちに頼りにしてもらえるよう頑張っていきます。

What's your personal target for your school?

I wish to keep students satisfied with their lessons and learning experiences at my School and to give them the motivation to keep learning with us. Importantly too I want the school to be a place teachers and staff feel happy to work at, where they feel they are valued and contribute towards the overall success and health of the school.

生徒の皆さんがレッスンを楽しまれ、英語学習を継続したい気持ちを持ってもらいたいと思います。このスクールで、みんなが働きたいと思えるようなよい環境を作りたいです。
