英国の国歌をご存知ですか。多分何度も耳にしている思います。
オリンピックの国旗掲揚の際には金メダリストの国歌が流れます。頂点に立った者たちはいつも神聖な面持ちでその歌詞を口ずさみます。
「君が代」に歌詞があるように、英国の国歌National Anthemにも歌詞がありますので、ご紹介しましょう。
Go save our gracious Queen!
Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen!
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen! (1番)
女王(国王)を称え、国の繁栄を願う歌詞は、2012年のロンドンオリンピックでは1番と3番が歌われたそうです。
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause,
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen! (3番)
